Aspen Family Activities

Kid & Family Activities
Family vacations are the stuff that memories are made of, but every parent can use a little help to make those memories as sweet as possible! Fortunately the Aspen Area is blessed with more great activities than you’ll ever squeeze into just one vacation.

The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies’ Hallam Lake is a nature reserve located in downtown Aspen. The beautiful 25 acre preserve features flora and fauna in their natural habitat, indoor classrooms and observatories. The half-mile nature trail loop is the perfect family walk as it meanders in and out of wetlands and includes stops at an observation tower. Also check out the nature programs and lectures that ACES offers at www.aspennature.org,  925.5756.

Climb two and a half miles and ascend 3,000 feet up Aspen Mountain on the Silver Queen gondola for great views and high-altitude activities on top of the mountain. Families can pack a picnic lunch or dine at the famous Sundeck Restaurant. Get the gang together for a game of disc golf on the worlds’ highest course or try out the climbing wall, obstacle course, and silver nugget exploration for the kids. At the top of Aspen Mountain there are also guided nature walks, alpine sightseeing, and hiking. 925.1220

The Aspen Historical Society is the keeper of Aspen’s diverse and fascinating history. Take some time to explore their two museums and check out the ghost towns of Independence and Ashcroft. 925.3721

For some pure family fun, head to the Aspen Recreation Center on Maroon Creek Road. Featuring the James E. Moore Pool, the Lewis Ice Arena, a 32-foot climbing wall, cardio and weight rooms, the ARC has something for everyone. The pool area includes a steam room, sauna, hot tub, two-story water slide, and a 25-yard additional lap pool. 544.4100

The Aspen Area is home to H2J Riding School, 970-923-9297, one of the country’s premier children’s equestrian schools featuring a summer day camp and private lessons for all horse lovers, big or small.

To help you make your child’s trip memorable and stress-free, the Kids Concierge, 970-544-KIDS, www.thekidsconcierge.com, offers unique services in the Aspen Area including planning activities, nursery set-up, family events, party planning and more and they can also set you up with the area’s best babysitters, nannies and private lesson instructors.
